Hey loves,
Today I will review and compare the Makeup Revolution Velvet Rose palette to the Soft Glam palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills. Keep on reading because it’s about to get interesting.
I was browsing, as I always am, through the many makeup retailers when I stumbled upon this Makeup Revolution Velvet Rose palette. I immediately thought that it looked a lot like Soft Glam by Anastasia Beverly Hills which I have reviewed in the past and it’s one of those palettes that I use constantly. However, at a price tag of ยฃ41 or โฌ48, it can be expensive for most people. Today I want to review and compare the Velvet Rose palette to the Soft Glam palette.
The packaging is obviously cheap looking but it’s very thin and compact. The exterior is made of plastic but it still feels quite sturdy. There is some information on the back of the palette but there are no shade names. I think the shade names are actually the numbers on the back of the palette. There are 15 shadows inside of this palette which is one more than Soft Glam. Each eyeshadow contains 1.1 grams and this palette retails for โฌ4,95. Yes, you have read that right. That’s a bargain.
The formula is good. I was pleasantly surprised. The mattes are buildable but still pigmented. They are a bit powdery, so you have to be careful when applying them to the eyes. The colour can go everywhere and it will make the look turn a bit muddy and one-dimensional. So try to be precise when applying them. The matte shades blend beautifully onto the eye and they have given me no issues. The darker shades were a bit patchy but nothing too terrible. The shimmers are really stunning and pigmented. They are chunkier than the shimmers in Soft Glam. The shimmers in Soft Glam are very soft to the touch but not as impactful and metallic as the ones in the Velvet Rose palette. I feel like the shimmers are shinier than Soft Glam. Overall, the formula is amazing for the price and I’m most impressed with the mattes.
Comparing it to the formula of Soft Glam, I would say that the mattes are pretty close. The mattes from Soft Glam are softer and more pigmented and they blend a touch better, especially the dark shades such as Mulberry and Noir. They’re also less powdery and dusty. The mattes of Velvet Rose blend beautifully though, you just have to have a bit of patience with the dark shades. The shimmers are not as comparable to the Soft Glam palette because the texture is quite different. However, I like both of the palettes in terms of shimmers. None of either formula of shimmers is bad and they both have a great pay-off. Soft Glam has softer shimmers whilst Velvet Rose has a more metallic finish. All in all, the formula of both palettes is great!
Swatches of Velvet Rose
Comparison swatches to Soft Glam
Next up, I would like to show you some comparison swatches. I do have to say that most of the shades are very similar, haha. Apart from 1 or 2 shades. On the left is Soft Glam, on the right is Velvet Rose.
Tempera – Dupe
This shade is basically my skin tone. Tempera is lighter and less peachy.
Glistening – Dupe
I would say that these are pretty identical. The dupe is slightly more metallic.
Orange Soda – Dupe
Again, very similar. The dupe is slightly less orange and more brown.
Rose Pink – Dupe
Again very similar. However Rose pink is more pink. Not as brown as the dupe.
Sultry – Dupe
Again very similar but Sultry is more purple and has more multidimensional glitters.
Bronze – Dupe
Such a stunning colour. Again similar but the dupe is more yellow instead of golden.
Mulberry – Dupe
This is the shade with the biggest difference. Mulberry is a lot redder and pigmented.
Dusty Rose – Dupe
Yet again very similar.
Fairy – Dupe
Fairy is my favourite shade inside Soft Glam. The shades are similar but not identical.
Burnt Orange – Dupe
Very identical. The dupe is a bit warmer.
Sienna – Dupe
Sienna has two dupes but the one in the middle is the best dupe.
Rustic – Dupe
This is a beautiful shade and I feel like the dupe is a bit more cool toned.
Cyprus Umber – Dupe
Very similar but a bit different. I prefer both of them, haha.
Noir – Dupe
I prefer Noir but the dupe is easier to work with because it isn’t as intense as Noir.
Look with Soft Glam and Velvet Rose
The top is Velvet Rose, Bottom is Soft Glam. My eyes are weird and not identical, I’m sorry. The Orange Soda, Sienna, Mulberry and Fairy shades and their dupes were used in this look and in that order.
All in all, I’m very impressed. I really like the Velvet Rose palette and at โฌ4,95, it’s truly a bargain. It’s a very good dupe for the Soft Glam and you can see that the majority of the shades are similar, if not identical. If you don’t want to splurge on Soft Glam but you want a similar colour scheme, then I would recommend to pick up this palette!
